# 1 reason WHY we should create content (it’s not just for influencers)

If you are unsure whether you should be creating content, this is for you.


Let me walk you through the what, the why, and the incredible return on investment content creation can offer.


What is Content, really?


Content isn’t just for influencers with millions of followers. It’s for anyone with expertise that wants to share it with others. In other words, it’s for you.


The Definition:


Content is Digitised Value

  • Value means it helps someone.
  • Digitised means it can be delivered without your physical presence.

  • Blog posts
  • Newsletters
  • Social media posts
  • Podcasts
  • Videos
  • Books
  • Audiobooks
  • Online courses
  • Webinars
  • Infographics

Leverage: The Secret Ingredient to More Impact and Income


What Is Leverage?


“Give me a lever long enough and a fulcrum on which to place it, and I shall move the world.” – Archimedes

To understand why it’s worth creating content, you need to understand leverage. Once you understand leverage, you will be disappointed about not creating content earlier.


There is how hard you work. This is the volume of effort you exert.


Then, there is how far that work can go. This depends on leverage.

Some people work super hard and still get boring results.


Some people work less and somehow get ridiculous results.


Why? Leverage.


As your business coach, there are 2 results I care about for you:

—> INCOME (how much $ you make)

—> IMPACT (how many people you help and how deeply you help them)


My aim for all of us is to increase our income and impact by expending the least amount of effort possible.


Cool?


The only way to do this is through leverage.


There are 5 Types of Leverage

  1. Currency
  2. Connections
  3. Content (our focus today)
  4. Code
  5. Capacity


Why Content Leverage Matters to Us


As health professionals, we’re conditioned to think in volume:

  • See more patients
  • Work more hours
  • Stretch yourself thin


This is how we make more money and help more people.


But time and energy are finite.


So, our income and impact is finite as well.


Unless we use leverage 🙂


A Real-Life Example: My “Do Happy” Journey


One Hour at a Time Wasn’t Cutting It


One of my favourite things to teach is a concept called Do Happy.


Do Happy is revised way to interpret the Feel-Think-Do model (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy).


Doing Happy changed my life and then, became my life’s work.


I share it with anyone who will care to listen, hoping it will change their life too.


In the past, I would spend up to an hour teaching a patient or private life coaching client the Do Happy model and going through examples.


Impactful? Yes.


Efficient? No.


One Article Changed Everything


So I wrote an article explaining the model.


It took 5 hours to create.


It took me 14 seconds to send the article to a patient or client.


After 5 sends, I’d broke even on my time investment.


Every send since I have been in the green.


Scaling with a Book


I decided to take it to a whole new level.


I invested 1.5 years of consistent writing into finishing my first book, Do Happy – A way to be happy all the time.


A 400+ page, easy to read, comprehensive guide to being ridiculously happy.


Now, I give my patients a copy of my book and prescribe a few chapters to read.


When they come back to see me they already know the theory, so we can get into the fun troubleshooting stuff.


At the time of writing this,

  • 324 copies sold
  • 165 copies given away


That’s 489 copies of Do Happy potentially helping people, without me needing to be there.


How Do Happy ended up in Norway!


I sent a copy of Do Happy to one of my previous Life Coaching clients.


He took the book to Norway and took photos to prove that my book is better travelled than me.


Then, he left the book in a small library next to a fireplace with this message inside.


Hello weary traveler (or “G’day Cobber” as we would say in Australia).


The book you have just opened has travelled with me almost 15,000 kilometres from a small town near Canberra, Australia. It was written by my mentor and true friend “DR G” (Dr. Gihan Jayaweera).


His guidance, advice, and to be honest— genuine feedback— has turned me from a person who was overworked, overstressed, and had no time for a weekend away. To someone who turned their life around. A person who, on a whim, decided to do something “epic” and travel to literally the top of the world to experience one of the most beautiful and amazing places you will ever see.


I hope the stories, advice, and guidance in this book bring you as much joy, happiness, and growth as it has brought me. 


It’s the craziest thing that my expertise could help a traveller in Norway that I will never meet.

But content? It can be anywhere, anytime, for anyone.


Content allows you to work hard once and deliver forever.

If you often say the same thing to different people… If your message is helping others… Turn it into content.

  • Write an article
  • Record a video
  • Launch a podcast
  • Run a live webinar (and record it)
  • Publish a book (or a series of books)
  • Build a course


Don’t hoard your value. Digitise it. Then share it.


Here’s the crazy thing!


Content is only one of FIVE forms of leverage.
