# 14 The FIRST thing I do with new clients

**If you want to launch your first newsletter (in less than an hour), I made you a tutorial. CONTACT ME BELOW with subject line ‘NEWSLETTER’ if you want me to send it to you.

Ok, let’s get to this week’s article!

🚀 Starting with an Inspiring Client

I started coaching an inspirational LM GP this week. In our first session, we covered:

👉 Why it’s commercially smart to identify a niche you can be a hero to
👉 How to shorten the gap between idea and execution
(e.g. Want to run workshops? Great—let’s run a pilot in the next 2 weeks)

But we didn’t begin with business strategy…

We began with:
🎯 Goals and Beliefs

This process is useful for any Lifestyle Medicine practitioner, so I thought I’d share it with you here.

1️⃣ Define Your 12-Month Goal

Ask yourself:

What do I want to achieve in the next 12 months?

Here are 5 helpful prompts:

💰 Financial:

  • How much revenue (money in) and profit (money you keep)?
  • Don’t know? “Enough plus a bit more” is a good place to start.

⏰ Time

  • How many hours per week can you dedicate?
  • Unsure? Let’s aim for full-time money, part-time hours.

🌍 Impact

  • How many people do you need to serve to hit your revenue and time targets?
  • Think in:
    • Breadth: Reach lots of people (charge less per person)
    • Depth: Deeply impact a few (charge more per person)

🧘🏽‍♀️ Lifestyle

  • How do you want to invest your time and energy outside of work?
  • Life’s too short not to have time for what matters—including time to do absolutely nothing.

❤️ Why

  • Why is this goal important to you?
  • Building a LM business is rewarding, meaningful, and hard— your WHY will be tested so make sure it runs deep. (I wrote about this last week)

📝 Now write it out:
“By [date], I want to make [profit] working [X hrs/week], serve [number of people], and still have time for [lifestyle stuff].”

Example:
“By 1st June 2026, I want to make $100K profit working 15 hours/week. I want to work with 10–15 clients and still have time for long walks, the gym, and doing absolutely nothing.”

2️⃣ Identify your self limiting and negative beliefs

SEE → DO → GET [Credit: The Late Great Stephen Covey]

This is the order of everything.

How we ‘see’ the world and ourselves, guides what we ‘do’.

This determine the results we ‘get’ in life.

🔍 Let’s focus on the “SEE” — how you think and what you believe.

We have:

  • 🧠 little t thoughts: moment to moment mental chatter
  • 🧠 Big T Thoughts: beliefs, assumptions, mindsets, perspectives

Big T thoughts shape our entire experience.

So, let’s upgrade them.

🪄 3 Steps to Bust Belief Blockers

  1. 🔓 Identify your self-limiting beliefs

These beliefs are tell you that you are deficient in some way.

     –> I can’t do this
–> I am not good enough
     –> I don’t have what it takes
     –> I don’t deserve this

  2. ⚠️ Identify your negative beliefs

These beliefs tell you that if you achieve something, bad things will happen.

    If I achieve [insert dream],
–> I won’t have time for my family and friends
–> I will become really stressed
–> People will think I am greedy
–> My friends won’t want to hang out because I have ‘changed’

  3. ❓ Question them:
    • Is it true?
    • Can I absolutely know that it’s true?
    • How do I react when I believe these thoughts?
    • Who would I be without that thought?

These 4 questions are from Byron Katie’s The Work

3️⃣ What Does Future You Believe?

To achieve big goals, you must become a different version of yourself who literally has different beliefs.

Publishing my first book Do Happy was a great example of this.

👎 Before and during the writing process:

  • “Is this ever going to end?”
  • “Do I even have time for this?”
  • “Will anyone read it?”

👍 After publishing Do Happy:

  • “It was a million percent worth it”
  • “This is helping so many people”
  • “I can do hard things”
  • “I’ve got more books in me – at least 10 😉”

Different beliefs → Different actions → Different results.

Ask yourself:

“What does the future me need to believe to achieve this goal?”

Another way to ask this is, “Who do I need to become and what do I need to believe, to achieve this goal?”

Write it down.

4️⃣ Review Goals & Beliefs Twice a Day

✍️ Write them out in the morning and evening. Or, you could write it out once and read it twice a day.

Why? 2 reasons.

🎯 It primes your brain.

We are bombarded with sensory stimulus and we can’t process all of it, so our brains filter out a lot of it.

Stop reading and bring your awareness to 5 things that you can hear.

Did you notice that you weren’t aware of those sounds until you focussed on them?

Similarly, if you bring you prime your brain with your goals and beliefs, you will start to notice things.

Opportunities will magically appear.

They were always there, but now you are noticing them.

🔥The world is distracting.

It keeps your focus on what matters (not emails, errands or endless scrolling)

Reviewing them protects your dreams from distraction, and keeps them front of mind.

5️⃣ Make Your Calendar Reflect Your Goals

🗓️ “Show me your calendar, and I’ll show you your priorities.” – Kevin Kelly

This has been my biggest aha in the last few months.

If your business matters, block out dedicated time to work on it.

Treat it like a job:
✅ Be on time
✅ Don’t be available (unless it’s an emergency)
✅ No distractions
✅ Show up even if you’re tired
✅ Only skip if you’re sick

What gets scheduled gets done.

💬 If This Helped You…

SHARE it with another Lifestyle Medicine practitioner you care about 💛

Much love to you, and of course, myself.
